About Me
Hello, My name is Susan . I am originally from NY but in 2007 I relocated to West Palm Beach Florida! I have advertised with in different pet stores, on line and etc; But I find it is easier for people to trust some one with your animal when you have a little inside information on them. This is why I have started this web site!! So that I was just not another face in the animal world, but merely one that you felt comfortable with that you could ask questions and come to for advice. I have many clients in different areas of the pet services I provide that would be happy to be used as a reference at any time. I hope the information you read on my site will be helpful to you . Please feel free to email or call me at any time! Now here is a little about myself and history in the animal industry.
I have been working in the world of animals for some time now. A lot of my experience has been retrieved working with in pet stores. One of the pet stores many of the people may know in West Palm Beach is Kookaburra's. I worked their bird, fish and reptile section . I was actually the person that started their reptile department back up in 2008. I also worked in many different locations in NY such as, Petland Discount, Animal Paradise, and etc;. I have been in the pet business since I was 18 years old although, Ive had animals in my life since before I could walk!
For the past 3 yrs now I have been traveling doing various pet services for different clients. I have recently started to advertise myself and business through the web. The various services I provide are Pet sitting, Personal Pet Shopping, Dog Walking, Fish Tank Maintenance, Bird Grooming & Training. My specialty has become my work with Birds. Although, I provide the many other services the Grooming and Training is my Favorite!
Many people think that training a bird is as easy as turning on a TV or Radio and letting them speak... But there is a lot more to training then having your bird talk... For starters, every bird should be taught the proper way to be held or what to do and what not to do! It is the same as teaching a child from knowing whats Wrong as compared to, from whats Right !!! I started working with Birds when I was younger but through the years, I've pushed my way into the bird world because I hope my services can help .. I do not just mean the birds either, I mean their owners as well. You see everyday some one some where is purchasing some bird for its color , or out going personality, but they usually never know what they are getting them selves into!! A bird is not an easy animal to care for it takes time and a lot of effort !! Lack of effort and handling, shows after a while! You can not just purchase a macaw and expect it to sit in a cage for days on end no contact or attention! That does not mean it would be better to leave the door open on its cage and let it do what it wants either!! These are both bad examples of how a bird should be cared for... I mean yes, you can not dedicate your life to a bird but you need to come up with a plan and a schedule! As to when the bird is aloud to come out , when you have time to spend with him / her , where should it be located in your house and most importantly is the bird you want to purchase a bird that can live and fit in your life style!!!!
As my career went on I started to see all the different animals that were dropped off, re-homed and flat out left to die!! To be honest it was quite depressing to see how many there really were. But the ones, I saw that were generally left in the most horrible situations and unable to have a happy home due to just plain abandonment, torture or even lack of training and being loved where birds!! It is complicated to get an unfriendly bird a new home after so many years or being neglected! They are all born wanting to love but with out getting any love in return or just not enough, they become unfriendly and scared.. Both of these can be very dangerous for the owner and future owners which is why their are so many unwanted birds out there.
So, I decided to start training birds so little by little I can let people know the correct way to work with them and gain control instead of letting them sit there and making not only their lives miserable but yours as well. Some people just do not have the time it takes to care for a bird, especially ones like a cockatoo!!! I mean I have 5 birds, 2 Macaws, 1 Mealey Amazon, 1 African Grey and a Cockatiel. I also have 3 Dogs, 2 Lizards and a Fish tank! Even, If I did not have any of them, at all. I would still never buy a cockatoo!! My macaws get their fair share of each but they can survive with out it on a 24 - 7 hour basis! Cockatoos are beautiful and smart birds but they are also always in desperate need of affection and attention.. I have worked with my fair share of them as well, I have even raised them from babies...
As for working with dogs, cats, small animals, reptiles and fish, I have more experience then most with all the above! Most people stick with one or two areas of the animal world. But I just love it all there is so much to know and learn about each one. I have owned everything from fish to horses, rabbits to ducks, frogs to monitors, and cats to ferrets !!! I have bred hamsters, guinea pigs, parakeets, lizards, rabbits and etc; Ive nursed sugar gliders back to good health and raised chinchillas from babies. I've raised baby birds from eggs... Hand fed them till seed and even taught them how to perch from not even knowing how to walk with their heads up high !!
I hope this will help you feel more comfortable and at ease about speaking with me about any of the above animal services. I hope in the future I can be of service to you and any of your animal needs. Thank You very much for visiting my site and keep me in mind the next time you need a pet sitter or have a question.
